How Does Composite Bonding Work?
Composite is a very versatile material (the same material used in white fillings) and has many applications in skilled hands. By applying the material to certain areas of the teeth we are able to achieve some fantastic results to meet your smile goals. For example, if you suffer from a diastema (gap between the front teeth), composite can be applied to the surrounding teeth, which will effectively close the gap. Please note, for large diastema's this may not be possible, but we will check your teeth first and discuss what options are suitable for you.
If you have slightly chipped a tooth or suffered a slight fracture, composite bonding can often be used in these cases to repair the tooth. The composite is a type of resin that is matched to the same colour of your tooth (for a natural & aesthetically pleasing result). Resin is initially manipulated to the shape and size we are aiming for, before it is light-cured (to harden) and become part of your tooth.
Composite bonding is often seen as a great treatment that supersedes dental veneers and in more extensive restorative cases, dental crowns.
How Long Does Composite Bonding Last?
Composite isn't as strong & durable as porcelain material, but with good care & oral hygiene (with regular visits to the hygienist), composite bonding can last between 5 – 7 years.
